BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—No. 5 Birmingham-Southern defeated Sewanee, 6-5, Sunday afternoon at Striplin Field to complete the three-game series sweep of the Tigers and move into first place in the Southern Athletic Association standings.

BSC moved to 22-3-1 overall and 10-1-1 in the SAA, while the Tigers dropped to 4-11 overall and 2-10 in league play.

The Panthers led 1-0 after the first inning courtesy of an RBI single from sophomore Jack Rhodes, but Sewanee pulled ahead 2-1 in the top of the third. The lead was short-lived as the Panthers scored three in the bottom of the third, with RBI from sophomores Zach Wingate and Sam Robertsand freshman Ross Anderson.

BSC held a 4-2 lead until the top of the sixth, when Sewanee pulled back ahead, 5-4, by scoring three runs. Another Rhodes RBI in the bottom of the sixth tied it up 5-5, and the tie stood until the bottom of the eighth, when junior Matt Brown RBI singled to bring in the go-ahead run. Senior closer David Bourbonnais came in to pitch the ninth, and allowed one Tiger to reach base before picking up his fifth save of the year.

Junior Wilson Jamison pitched the eighth inning and got the win, moving to 1-1. Overall the pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts and only one walk.

Wingate went 3-3 at the plate, while senior Casey Lambert was 2-4 and Brown was 2-5.

The Panthers are at home again this Tuesday, March 31, hosting No. 19 Emory at 5 p.m.
