SAUGERTIES, N.Y. – Playing its first games in New York this season and first contests since March 21, the State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team dropped a pair of games to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent SUNY Oswego on Saturday at Cantine Field.
 
The Hawks dropped game one 12-2 before succumbing to the Lakers 10-3 in the nightcap. With the losses, New Paltz drops to 3-12, 0-5 SUNYAC while Oswego improves to 15-4, 8-0 SUNYAC. The teams will conclude the three-game series tomorrow at 12 p.m.
 
Oswego 12, New Paltz 2 (Game One)
 
The Hawks managed to crack seven hits in the opener but left seven runners stranded. Junior shortstop Andrew DiNardo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay-East Fishkill) led the offense with two hits and one RBI while sophomore Andrew Martini (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) came through with a pinch-hit RBI single.
 
Senior left-hander Brian Solomon (New Windsor, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) suffered the defeat, striking out three and allowing just three earned runs in his start. Sophomore righty Luke Schuessler (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury), senior right-hander Tyler Mitts (Nanuet, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep) and freshman righty Conor Donachie (Garden City, N.Y./Chaminade) all appeared out of the bullpen.
 
Trailing 9-0 in the seventh, Martini came through with an RBI groundout to score junior catcher Taylor Anderson(East New Market, Md./Cambridge-South Dorchester) and DiNardo followed with a single through the left side to plate freshman outfielder Jake Williams (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) to score the Hawks' two runs.
 
Oswego 10, New Paltz 3 (Game Two)
 
Williams finished the contest 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Anderson chipped in two hits and scored two runs.
 
Senior starting pitcher Shaun Hansen (Southold, N.Y./Greenport) was charged with the loss, going four frames and allowing just one earned run. Senior southpaw Roy Missall (Hemlock, N.Y./Honeoye Central), freshman lefty Brian LoRusso (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and freshman righty Luke Christy (New York City, N.Y./NYC Lab High School for Collaborative Studies) all threw out of the pen for New Paltz.
 
New Paltz surrendered three runs in the top of the first frame but came within one run, 3-2, after plating a run in the first and second. Unfortunately, the Lakers scored twice in the third and four times in the top of the seventh to hand New Paltz the game two loss. In game two, the Hawks managed to crack nine hits but were hurt by six errors in the field.
