The baseball team played the Beavers of CCNY in a CUNYAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the baseball field on the campus of Bronx Community College.
The Bearcats lost the first game, 4-2, but bounced back to win the second, 5-1. They are now 4-2 in the conference standings, while the Beavers go to 3-1 as the season now passes the midway point.
In the first game, the Beavers scored three runs in the second inning to force the Bearcats to play catch up.
They would eventually score a pair of runs in the third inning to get as close as 3-2. Angel Tejedahit his team-leading fifth homer of the season, and the team's 13th, to get on the scoreboard. They kept the momentum alive at the plate with Dan Daleysmacking an RBI single to score Zachary T. Uher.
The Beavers scored an insurance run in the seventh and kept the Bearcats quiet in their final at-bat to pull out the 4-2 win.
In the second game, the Bearcats took control early with Tejeda hitting an RBI single in the first inning to plate Donovan Hunt. Jasdeep Buttarhit his first and the team's 14th homer in the third to extend the advantage to 2-0.
The Beavers scored a run in the fourth inning to cut the score to 2-1. Matthew Ballonehit a sacrifice fly RBI in the fifth and Eric Ulinosmacked a two-run homer in the sixth to build the score to 5-1.
The score would remain unchanged as Cameron Kitt(Win, 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1ER, 2 BB, 4 K) and Matthew Fazio (2 IP, 1 H, 3 K) combined for solid pitching on a rare sunny and warm afternoon in April.
The Bearcats will hit the road Tuesday and will travel down the New Jersey Turnpike for a game near Philadelphia against Rutgers-Camden. First pitch at Camden Riversharks Stadium in Camden, New Jersey is scheduled for 4pm.
This game will mark the fourth time this season that the baseball team will play in a professional minor league stadium.
