Palumbo's Ninth Inning Hit Leads Rams Past TCNJ

Ewing, N.J. - Tied 4-4 in the top of the ninth, freshman second baseman Domenic Palumbo (Plainview, N.Y.) hit a two out 2 RBI single to left field leading the Farmingdale State baseball team to a 6-5 non-conference victory at The College of New Jersey on Tuesday afternoon.

Tied 2-2 in the top of the fifth, senior shortstop Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) hit a one out single up the middle and later advanced to second on a wild pitch. A throwing error by the TCNJ (12-12) catcher allowed Rydzewski to score and put the Rams ahead, 3-2.

The Lions tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by freshman third baseman Zachary Shindler (Wantagh, N.Y.).

Farmingdale State (10-12) junior catcher Ryan Jordan (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) led off the seventh with a double down the left field line. After a Rydzewski single, senior center fielder Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) gave the Rams a 4-3 lead with an RBI double to right field.

TCNJ tied the game at 4-4 in the eighth, before Palumbo's two out 2 RBI single to left field in the ninth put Farmingdale State on top, 6-4.

The Lions scored only one run in the bottom of the ninth as Farmingdale State held on for the 6-5 victory.

Rydzewski was 4-for-5 at the plate and scored a run, while Jordan had two hits and one run scored. Junior first baseman Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) was 2-for-5 and scored two runs and Palumbo had a hit and a game-high 3 RBI. 

Freshman pitcher Christopher Reilly (Levittown, N.Y.) recorded the win pitching 0.2 innings of scoreless relief and senior Alex Pangourelias (Briarwood, N.Y.) closed the game and was credited with his second save of the season.

TCNJ was led by Shindler who was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in.

The Rams next will host Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline Conference doubleheader on senior day on Saturday, April 18th at noon.
