Baseball Runs Winning Streak To Six With Win Over Baruch

VALHALLA, N.Y. (April 21, 2015) – The Stevens Institute of Technology baseball saw its winning streak improve to six straight with a victory over Baruch College 12-3 on Tuesday.

The Ducks have won 12 of their last 13, while improving to 21-10 on the year while Baruch fell to 10-18.

Stevens tacked the first run on the board in their first at bat, with sophomore Zeph Walters knocking in junior Jonathan Toro on a sacrifice fly. The visitors added another run in the top of the second on an RBI groundout from sophomore Nolan Bennett. The Bearcats knotted the score at two with a run in both the second and third innings. Zachary Uher delivered a solo homer to bring the hosts within one which was followed up in the third inning on a run scoring single by Eric Ulino.

The rest of the game belonged to the Ducks starting off in the fourth inning with five runs. Junior Jayson Yano led off with a single and moved to third on a double by classmate Nick Sieber. After a strikeout, sophomore Michael Mule' walked to load the bases. Bennett drew a bases loaded walk to drive in a run, and senior Marc Calleo was plunked to score Sieber. Toro grounded out to the shortstop to bring Mule' around and the big blow of the inning was a two-run single by freshman Tommy Baronner. Baruch got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Ulino.

Stevens added a run in the top of the sixth when Toro was nailed by a pitch, moved to second on a groundout and promptly swiped third base. With Walters at the plate, Toro scampered home on a walk pitch to add to the lead. The Ducks added the final four runs in the top of eighth on three hits. Bennett led off with a double and moved to third on a groundout. He would come around on a wild pitch as Toro walked. After a walk to Baronner, both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Walters was walked to load the bases. Yano delivered a big double to plate two men, and Sieber drove in another run with a ribbie single.

Baronner and Yano had three hits and two RBI's each, while Sieber, Toro and Mule' all had multiple hit outings. Senior Peirce Marston started tossed six innings allowing one earned run with four strikeouts while sophomore Will Korosec fanned two in his one inning of work.

Matthew Ballone and Uher each had two hits for the Bearcats.

The Ducks return to action tomorrow with a short drive to Jersey City to battle the Gothic Knights with first pitch at 3:30 p.m.
