CASTELTON, VT - Freshman Nick Williams pitched eight strong innings, allowing one run on seven hits, as Union defeated Castelton St. 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon. Eric Egan and Jake Vesling both collected three hits and Jake Fishman drove in two runs and earned his first career save for the Dutchmen.

Jamie Faber opened the scoring in the top of the first as he drove in Vesling with a single to right center. The RBI increased his total to a team-leading 24 on the season.

The Spartans answered in bottom half of the inning with a run on a groundout to short to tie the game at 1-1.

Egan gave Union a 2-1 lead in the third as the junior singled in Vesling. Fishman followed with a sac fly to left to score Matt Ferdenzi to give the Dutchmen a two-run lead.

Fishman added another run to Union's ledger in the top of the fifth with a RBI single to bring home Egan to put the Garnet and White in front 4-1.

Castleton St. threatened in the bottom of the fifth, loading the bases with just one out. Williams was luckily able to escape any damage as he got Nate Swahn to ground into the 1-2 force out to nab the lead runner before getting Jimmy Buckley to pop out to second to end the scoring chance.

Williams kept the Spartan bats in check for his final three innings to pick up his second straight win to move to 2-0 on the year. Fishman closed it out in the ninth, striking out two, to earn his first career save.

The Dutchmen will play at Williams tomorrow afternoon in the final road game of the regular season before coming home to face the University of Rochester this weekend at Central Park. Before the first pitch on Sunday, Union will honor its three seniors: Anders GoetzChris Pignatello and CJ Worley.
