Keystone Defeats Baldwin Wallace 4-2 to Stay Alive at NCAA Regionals

Auburn, NY – Keystone College remained alive in the NCAA Regional Tournament with a 4-2 victory over Baldwin Wallace University, currently ranked 11th in the country, in an elimination game in the New York Regional bracket on Thursday afternoon a Falcon Park.  The third-seeded Giants improve to 32-13 on the season and will play another elimination game on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. after eliminating the second-seeded Yellow Jackets (31-12), who advanced to the 2014 NCAA Division III Collegiate World Series after winning the Mid-Atlantic Regional.
 
Felix Baez (San Juan, PR/Colegio Presbiteriano) tossed a complete game, four-hitter while tying a season-high with 10 strikeouts to lead Keystone to the win on Thursday. 
 
The Giants will play loser of Thursday's winner's bracket game between Amherst and Cortland State on Friday morning in another elimination game.  The winner of Friday morning's game will play again on Friday night at 7:45 p.m.  
 
In Thursday's elimination game, Baldwin Wallace took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning as Cole Nieto hit a double to the gap in left-center to bring home Zach Ferster with the game's first run. 
 
The Giants answered right back in the home half of the inning with two runs on three hits to claim a 2-1 lead.  Chris Bzozowski (Westampton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, moved to second on a Joe Angelucci (Commack, NY/Commack) sacrifice bunt, and took third on a groundout by Julian Lanfranco (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian)Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) then legged out an infield single to bring home Bzozowski with the tying run before Luciano slapped a single through the right side to drive in Rojas to give Keystone their first lead of the day. 
 
The Yellow Jackets responded in the top of the fourth inning when Mark Zimmerman ripped a home run over the right field wall to lead off the frame and knot the score at 2-2, but Keystone went back in front in the home half of the inning as Bzozowski drew a two-out walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored when Angelucci looped a single into right field to give the Giants a 3-2 edge.
 
Keystone pushed their lead to 4-2 in the home fifth when Rojas scored on a passed ball with two outs in the inning to give the Giants an insurance run, but that was more than enough for Baez, who tossed his fourth complete game of the season and improve to 6-0 on the year.
 
Rojas and Alex Herceg (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) had two hits apiece to lead Keystone's offense, which held a slim, 6-4 edge in hits.
 
Zimmerman (5-3) started on the mound for Baldwin Wallace and was charged with the loss after allowing four runs on five hits while striking out nine batters on the day.  Alex Albright gave up one hit in 0.1 innings of work before turning the ball over to Brandon Cichocki, who fanned one batter and walked one in 0.2 innings.
 
Zimmerman had two of the Yellow Jackets' four hits on the day.
