Gorloks, Bensinger, Beat Wildcats, 7-1

The #19 ranked Webster University baseball team beat perennial powerhouse Linfield College, 7-1, on March 11 in Orange, CA.  Jack Bensinger threw a complete game for the win for the Gorloks, as the Webster offense rapped out 12 hits and scored in four different innings.

Bensinger (GR, Los Angeles, CA/Campbell Hall) went nine innings, giving up just six hits, walking none, and missed a shutout when the Wildcats scored an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth.  Bensinger is now 2-1 on the season, with a 2.30 earned run average, allowing only 29 runners in 31 1/3 innings pitched.

The Gorloks took a 2-0 lead in the third when Blake Thomas (SR, Troy, IL/Triad HS) had a two-run single with two-down, scoring Matt Wollnik (JR, Naperville, IL/Nequa Valley HS) and Mike Wick (SO, Bartlett, IL/Bartlett HS).  Webster added another run in the fifth, when Wollnik singled, stole second, and came home on a two-out single by Jeff Kammer (SR, Chesterfield, MO/Lafayette HS) for a 3-0 lead.

Adam Naliwajko (JR, Mt. Prospect, IL/St. Viator HS) doubled to lead off the sixth and took third on a single by Wick.  Wick swiped second, and he and Naliwajko scored on a single by Mike Golich (SO, Aurora, IL/Aurora West HS).  Wollnik reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and reached third on an error by the Linfield catcher.  He would score on a groud out by Kyle Uhrich (JR, St. Louis, MO/Webster Groves HS) to make it 6-0 Webster.

The Gorloks added one more run in the seventh when Jake Milosch (FR, St. Charles, IL/St. Charles East HS) tripled with one down, and scored on a sacrifice bunt by pinch-hitter Jake Celleghin (SR, Westfield, IN/Westfield HS).

Wollnik wound up 1-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored.  Thomas was 1-4 with two RBIs, and Golich was 1-5 with two RBIs.  Milosch, Dylan Rajkovich (SR, Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg HS), Naliwajko, and Wick all wound up with two hits in the game. 
  
Webster, ranked #19 in the lated d3baseball.com poll, is now 6-6 on the season.  Linfield, ranked 25th, falls to 11-7.  The Wildcats were 33-15 in 2015 and won the NCAA III Championship in 2013.

Webster and Linfield will conclude a three-game series with a doubleheader on March 12 at Whittier College, in Whittier, CA.  That will conclude the Gorloks California trip and they will open play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a weekend serie at Eureka College on March 19-20.
