LOS ANGELES — Devon DeRaad left the yard twice and the Occidental baseball team rolled on the way to their eighth consecutive win, beating Whittier College 11-6 Saturday afternoon at Anderson Field.
DeRaad is leading the SCIAC with 24 RBIs and five home runs as he looks to exceed his record setting total of 13 jacks last season.
In the bottom of the fourth with two on base, DeRaad sent his pitch over the right field fence, bringing in Brady Fuller and Charlie Cacammo to put Oxy up 6-1. He followed it up in his next at bat with another three-run shot that scored Reid Gibbs and Fuller.
DeRaad, who also had a double, finished the day 3-4 with six RBIs, and three runs scored.
Cacaamo had a solid day offensively finishing with two RBIs.
Wilson Terrall and Derek Sun made the most of their time at the plate, each hitting in a run in their lone at bats. Jamie Cooper also recorded an RBI with a double in the third inning.
Will Martel got the win pitching five innings with two strikeouts and two earned runs.
The Poets rallied late scoring three in the ninth, but not enough to catch the Tigers.
Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 10-4 overall and 8-2 in the SCIAC.Whittier falls to 5-10 and 2-5.
