AUBURNDALE, FLA. – Endicott College scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and the Gulls handled the nationally top-ranked Cortland baseball team its first loss of the season, 8-3. The setback snapped Cortland's 21-game winning streak that included the first 12 games of this season and the last nine games of the 2015 campaign.

Chris Seidl went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Matthew Paola was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI for the Gulls (3-2). Will Ferreira earned the victory with five innings of six-hit ball. He gave up three runs and one walk and struck out six. Davarn Nova threw four scoreless innings for the save. He allowed only two hits and one walk and fanned four batters.

Jason Martin (Turin/South Lewis) started for Cortland and gave up seven runs, three earned, on five hits and two walks in three and a third innings. He struck out four batters. Kashaun Curry (Middletown) turned in two innings of two-hit scoreless relief with two strikeouts. Ralph Nuzzi (Mount Kisco/Fox Lane) finished 2-for-4 at the plate, Sean Getman (Oneonta) was 1-for-3 with two RBI and Connor Griffin (Cortland) ended 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

Cortland took a 1-0 lead in the second on a Getman RBI groundout. Endicott started its seven-run fourth with a Paola walk, an Anthony Serina single and a Siedl RBI infield single. After an error on a sac bunt, Corbin Hyde hit a two-run single to put Endicott up 3-1. A throwing error on a bunt allowed a run to score, Cam Farnham drove in a run with a fielder's choice grounder, and Paola finished the rally with a two-run triple.

The Red Dragons got two runs back in the top of the sixth on a Nick Hart (Fredonia) triple, with a wild pitch scoring him, and later in the frame a Getman RBI groundout. Endicott responded with a run in the bottom of the inning with a Paola RBI single. Cortland's last serious threat came in the seventh when the Red Dragons loaded the bases with two outs, but a fielder's choice force out ended the inning. Nova retired the final six batters.

Cortland will be off on Wednesday and will face Clarkson on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Auburndale.
