The Short Story: Johns Hopkins improved to 9-1 in its last 10 games with a 6-3 victory against visiting Gwynedd-Mercy. Carter Burns pitched into the eighth inning for the Jays to earn his second mound victory of the year. Josh Hejka and Alex Ross came out of the bullpen to clinch the win, each striking out a batter down the stretch. Conor Reynolds and Mike Smith each recorded three hits to lead the Jays, who totaled double-digit hits for the seventh straight game.
How it Happened:
- Hopkins opened up the scoring just three pitches into the bottom the first. Reynolds led the inning off with a double down the leftfield line and scored two pitches later on a single off the bat of Brian Lin.
- The Griffins took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth, scoring a pair unearned runs that were the effect of three Blue Jay errors in the half inning.
- JHU tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on Mitch Weaver's fourth home run of the season, a blast into the wind over the left field wall. The Jays then took the lead later in the inning when they took advantage of a Gwynedd error.
- Hopkins made it 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh. Weaver, Tommy Mee and Joe Conlon all recorded RBIs in the inning.
- Gwynedd threatened in the top of the eighth, loading the bases with no outs. Hejka came in and limited the damage as only one Griffin crossed the plate.
