REDLANDS — Devon DeRaad tripled in the bottom of the ninth to bring in the go-ahead run, and the Occidental baseball team made it 15 wins in its last 16 games with a 7-6 victory at Redlands on Saturday afternoon.
Season Impact: The Tigers take the series 2-1, improving to 17-5 overall and are alone in first with a 12-3 SCIAC record. Oxy was ranked No. 22 in the nation in the latest ABCA National Poll and had a 13-game winning streak going into the series with the Bulldogs this weekend.
Redlands falls to 17-8 and 10-5.
The Tigers rallied with two outs in the ninth. Charlie Caccamo got hit by a pitch and then DeRaad sent a triple down the right-field line, bringing Caccamo around to score from first.
DeRaad finished the game 2 for 4. Jack Brancheau went 3 for 5 with a RBI and a run scored, Eamon McNeil was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, Bryan Smith went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored, and Reid Gibbs was 2 for 4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs.
Riley James earned the win for the Tigers, striking out five in 4.2 innings of relief.
John White was charged with the loss for Redlands.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action against Pomona-Pitzer at Anderson Field on Friday for the first of a three-game series.
