HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Sophomore Rick Spiers (South Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) had two hits and stole three bases as the fifth-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team dropped a 3-0 decision at Hampden-Sydney in ODAC action Wednesday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets (18-4-1, 6-4 ODAC) were blanked for the first time this season. R-MC matched his season low with six hits and stranded 10.
Spiers had a leadoff single in the first and stole second and third. The Yellow Jackets loaded the bases, but were not able to get on the scoreboard. The Tigers tallied two in the second to take the early lead.
In the third, Spiers had another leadoff base hit and stole second, but R-MC stranded a pair. The Yellow Jackets also left another pair on in the fourth.
H-SC added a run in the sixth. R-MC led one on in each of the final two innings, stranding a total of 10.
Freshman Jeffrey Butler (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) went 1 for 4 with a double, while senior Travis Lodge (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) drew two walks and stole a base for the Yellow Jackets.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Thursday, March 31, at 2 p.m. against Piedmont.
