EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – The University of Scranton baseball team rallied from a five-run deficit by scoring five times in the fifth inning, but Wilkes scored three times in the seventh to hand the Royals a 9-6 defeat at Artillery Park on Thursday afternoon.
Scranton (11-13) trailed 6-1 after four innings, but pushed across five runs in the fifth to tie the game. Sophomore shortstop Brad Schneider (Ambler, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) had a two-run single, junior second baseman Anthony Simone (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley Senior) had an RBI single and senior left fielder Brian Healy (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) had a bases-loaded walk as part of the rally.
Sophomore designated hitter Anthony Caladie (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) had three hits to lead the Royals, who also got two singles and a run from senior catcher Tyler Ferretti (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) and two hits and and RBI from Simone. Healy and sophomore outfielder Ryan Coonahan (Oreland, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) both doubled while Healy drove in a run and scored another.
The Royals are back in action on Saturday when they host Juniata in a Landmark Conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Connell Park. The team will honor its four seniors during a Senior Day ceremony between games.
