Five Bombers Notch Multi-Hits in 10-4 Win over New Paltz

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team put up its nine double-digit runs output of the season with a 10-4 non-conference victory over SUNY New Paltz on Tuesday afternoon at Freeman Field. Ithaca, now 15-12 on the season, recorded 14 hits and five stolen bases in the triumph.

New Paltz took an early 1-0 lead on an unearned run in the top of the first, but Ithaca responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Junior Josh Savacool led off with a single and then scored on a base hit from freshman Matt Carey. Junior Ryan Dougherty also came home on the hit after reaching on an error. A wild pitch allowed junior Trevor Thompson to notch the third run of the frame.

The Hawks knotted the game up at 3-3 in the third with a two-run single and two outs. After the first two batters were retired, New Paltz walked and doubled to put both runners in scoring position before the game-tying single.

Ithaca regained the lead at 5-3 in the bottom of the third on a single from freshman Webb Little and a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore Domenic Boresta. Thompson scored on the Little single and Carey came home on a sac fly.

Two more runs would score for the Bombers in the fourth to extend their lead to 7-3. Thompson scored the first run on a base hit from freshman Sam Little and then he came around on a single from W. Little.

In the fifth, Boresta worked his way around the bases with a bunt single, stolen base and moved to third on a balk and scored on a bloop single from Savacool. Savacool moved into scoring position with a stolen base and came home on a base hit from Thompson to give Ithaca a six-run cushion at 9-3.

Ithaca's final run of the game scored in the eighth on an RBI single from junior Ryan Henchey that pushed Carey in from second base.

Sophomore Tyler Hill earned his fourth win of the season in six innings of work. Hill struck out five Hawks and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits with three walks.

Freshman Zach Zottola earned his collegiate save in three innings pitched. Zottola fanned five batters and gave up a run on two hits.

Carey paced the offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI. Savacool, W. Little, Henchey and Boresta all tallied two hits. Thompson scored three runs and walked twice, while S. Little and senior Zach Cole picked up the other base hits for Ithaca.

Boresta, Cole, Dougherty, Savacool and Thompson each had a stolen base to lead the Bombers to their most swipes in a game this season.

Ithaca travels to Elmira tomorrow for an Empire 8 Conference game at 4 p.m. The Bombers will then return home for three conference games against Houghton on Friday and Saturday. Saturday's doubleheader is also Senior Day.
