Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team lost a heartbreaker in the nightcap as Concordia Texas rallied late to complete a doubleheader sweep of the Cru Saturday night in Belton. UMHB fell 8-7 in 12 innings in the second game after dropping a 9-0 decision in game one. The Cru falls to 11-27 overall and 6-17 in American Southwest Conference play with the two losses. Concordia improves to 26-13 overall and 18-5 in the ASC with the two wins.

UMHB saw a three-run lead disappear in the top of the ninth inning as the Tornados rallied for that 8-7 victory. Concordia grabbed an early lead before Scott Stephens hit a two-run homer to give the Cru a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second. CTX tied it in the top of the fourth before UMHB exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth. The first run scored on a balk before Dakota Parsons drove home three more on a bases loaded double. Chase Burrow singled home Parsons to make it 7-2. The Tornados cut it to 7-4 with two runs in the top of the sixth to set the stage for the ninth-inning rally. Jake Valadez grounded out with the bases loaded to score the first run and Tyler Johnson tied the game with a two-out, pinch-hit, two-run double. The Cru left two runners on base in the bottom of the tenth and another runner in the 11th. Valadez led off the top of the 12th with a solo home run over the wall in right-center to make it 8-7. Nathan Kent took the loss for UMHB to fall to 2-4 on the year while Justin Traxler earned the win for CTX to move to 7-2. Burrow had three hits for the Cru and Max Conway, Cody Stone and Riley Davis added two hits apiece. Caleb Maddox was the only Tornado with more than one hit as Cru pitchers walked 11 batters in the loss.

UMHB fell behind early in a 9-0 game one loss. Connor Bertsch blasted a two-run homer in the top of the first to give the Tornados a 2-0 lead. Concordia used three hits and a pair of Cru errors to put five runs on the board in the top of the third for a 7-0 lead. The Tornados added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to account for the final margin. UMHB managed just two hits off Concordia pitcher Lane Hobbs with a Stephens infield single and a Ty Johnson double. Hobbs struck out five and did not walk a batter in raising his record to 9-1. Connor Heussner took the loss to drop to 2-6 on the season. Four different players had two hits apiece for Concordia in the game.

The game one loss eliminates the Cru from contention for a berth in the ASC Championship Tournament. The two teams will close out the series and the regular season with a 1:00 PM single game on Sunday at Red Murff Field.
