ATLANTA (Feb. 12, 2017) – Led by its strong pitching, No. 4/6 ranked Emory completed a three-game sweep of the Sewanee baseball team, Sunday.
The Eagles won the opener 3-0 before taking the nightcap, 8-4. Sewanee is now 0-5 to start the season. After five straight games on the road, Sewanee will open a six-game homestand against Wilmington, Saturday.
Emory 3 --- Sewanee 0
Starter Billy Dimlow was outstanding for Emory. Dimlow tossed 7.0 scoreless innings while striking out 12 and allowing only two hits. Reliever Kyle Monk then came in and earned the save after he allowed only one hit and no runs while striking out two in 2.0 innings.
The lone three hits for Sewanee came from Drew Mancuso and Jared Demkowicz. Mancuso finished 2-for-4 with one double.
Combined, Sewanee pitchers Harrison Lee, Sam Herrick, J.J. Clements, and Bryce Benedict limited Emory to eight hits. Lee, who started the game, tossed 6.0 innings and allowed four hits while striking out two.
Emory was held scoreless until the bottom of the sixth. The Eagles scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Emory 8 --- Sewanee 4
After a low-scoring contest in the opening game of the doubleheader, Emory scored five runs in the first two innings of game two. Sewanee answered in the top of the third with a pair of runs.
Demkowicz continued his hot-hitting with a single to open the frame. Three batters later, Demkowicz scored on a bases-loaded balk. A batter later, Beau Allen scored after a throwing error by the Emory second baseman.
Sewanee then added another run in the top of the fourth. After Ryan Poole reached with a single, Demkowicz scored Poole with an RBI single to center.
The Tigers added one final run in the top of the seventh as Demkowicz stole home on a double steal.
Again Demkowicz led the offense going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Mancuso also had two hits.
Emory starter Luke Emmett earned the win after he allowed two earned runs and struck out four in 6.0 innings.
Nick Chambers led Emory at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance and three runs scored. Brian Hernandez also played well with two hits and three RBI.
