Baruch Ends Florida Trip with Loss to Carroll (8-2)

The Baruch College Bearcats lost to Carroll University, 8-2, in the final game of their annual trip to Fort Myers, Florida on Monday morning.


The game was a pitching duel through the first four innings, but the Bearcats struck first in the fifth inning.
Matthew Donofriosingled, advanced to second base on a error, and came around to score a few pitches later on another error by the Pioneers from Wisconsin for the 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers quickly tied the game in their next at-bat and scored seven more runs over the course of the next three innings to lead 8-1 after eight innings.

The Bearcats in the ninth managed to score one more run.
Ramon Moreta walked in a run (Gilberto Mendoza, Jr.) with two outs to cut the score to the eventual final of 8-2.

Carter Howard earned the pitching win for the Pioneers by limiting the Bearcats to four hits, one run (not earned), three walks and six strikeouts in 7.2 innings of action. Hunter Frey batted 3-for-3 with an RBI and run scored as part of their team's 16-hit attack.

Mendoza, Jr. led the Bearcats batting 2-for-3 with a run scored. Moreta had an RBI.

The Bearcats were initially scheduled to return home tomorrow (Tuesday), but due to anticipated Blizzard and flight cancellations, the team will now return home on Wednesday, March 15.
