Big Inning Hurts Wolves in Rain-Shortened Game

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Keuka College Baseball team lost to the University of Chicago on Saturday 10-1.

The game originally schedule for nine innings was called as an official game after five due to rain.

Keuka College (0-5) got a pair of hits from freshman Brooks Vertoske (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads). Fellow freshman Anthony Mashewske (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) drove in the lone run of the game for the Wolves.

Keuka College 1 vs. Univ. of Chicago 10 – 5 innings

After a scoreless first inning, the Maroons exploded for eight runs in the second inning to take control of the game. Errors hurt the Wolves as only two of the eight runs were earned. Keuka College plated their lone run in the bottom of the second on a groundout by Mashewske. Chicago added two runs in the fourth before the clouds opened up following the fifth inning. As an official game, the umpires ended it after five with Chicago defeating Keuka College 10-1.

Wolf Pup: Freshman Brooks Vertoske has made an impact to start the season for the Wolves. He had two hits today and has gone 4-9 (.444 batting average) in four game to start the season. He has drove in a pair of runs and scored a run himself.

  • Keuka College's five game winless streak to start the season is the longest since the 2013 season
  • David Nuzzo (Manlius, N.Y. / Fayetteville-Manlius) had a single in the game. He has recorded a hit in every game this season
