NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team dropped a pair of games to visiting No. 6 SUNY Cortland on Easter Sunday, falling in game one, 4-1, before dropping game two, 6-4.

With the losses, the Hawks are now 12-12 overall, 5-7 SUNYAC and will travel to SUNY Plattsburgh on Tuesday-Wednesday, April 18-19 for a three-game set. The Red Dragons, meanwhile, improve to 28-5, 13-2 SUNYAC after taking the three-game series.

Game One: No. 6 Cortland 4, New Paltz 1

The Red Dragons did all the damage with a four-run fourth inning and held the New Paltz bats to just four hits in the opener.

The four through seven hitters provided all the offense for New Paltz as sophomore Justin Ganca (Merrick, N.Y./Bellmore John F. Kennedy), junior Dwayne Page (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot), freshman Savino Citriniti (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) and sophomore Danny Campbell (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) all collected base knocks with Campbell coming through with a double to right center in the bottom of the fifth.

Freshman Anthony Amoroso (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) drove in the team's lone run with an RBI groundout to third in the bottom of the fifth.

Sophomore righty Justin Stybel (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) suffered the loss (1-3) as he threw all seven innings, scattering six hits while striking out five. Stybel hurled 115 pitches.

Game Two: No. 6 Cortland 6, New Paltz 4

Despite jumping out to an early 1-0 lead, the Hawks gave up four runs in the third to go down 4-1.

Trailing 5-1 in the fifth, junior Nick DePietro (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) ripped a three-run homer to left center to get the Hawks within one, 5-4. However, Cortland managed to tack on another insurance run to claim the doubleheader sweep.

New Paltz managed seven hits in game two as Ganca went 2-for-4. Junior Chris Moran (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) came through with an RBI double to left center in the first inning.

Freshman James Magnuson (Northport, N.Y./Northport) suffered the defeat (1-1) as the lefty threw five innings, giving up four earned runs while striking out five. Freshman John LoCurto (Westbury, N.Y./Carle Place) tossed the final four innings out of the pen, allowing three hits and no runs.
