UMass Boston 11, Roger Williams University 5

UMass Boston (17-8)
Roger Williams (9-19)

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a rocky start gave the Hawks an early 2-0 lead through two innings, the Beacons bats came alive in the third and fourth innings.  The Beacons unloaded eight hits, which they turned into seven runs, all earned off Roger Williams top pitcher in Sam Bennett.

An RBI single by Kyle Boudrias (Medford, Mass.) extended his hit-streak and gave the Beacons their first run of the afternoon.  Chris Fowler (Barnstable, Mass.) tied the game at 2-2 moments later as he ripped an RBI double to extend his hit-streak to a career-high 18 straight games.

The Beacons did all their damage in the fourth, as they knocked-in five runs to take a comfortable 7-2 lead over the Hawks.  Mantoni recorded his first triple of the day to knock-in a pair of runs, while Josh Lopez (New Haven, Conn.), Danny Brown (Hudson, N.H.), and Boudrias each picked-up an RBI in the inning.

Nick Herzog (Riverhead, N.Y.) then made it a six-run game in the sixth inning as he crushed an RBI double to the left field line, which plated Eddie Riley (Quincy, Mass.).

Roger Williams did cut into the deficit a little bit in the seventh as they scored three runs on two hits, but the late inning rally was quickly countered in the bottom half of the inning.  Brown unloaded an RBI double, followed by Mantoni's second triple.  Riley capped-off the Beacons scoring spree with a sac-fly to clinch the victory.

Joe Maguire (Peabody, Mass.) finished-off the Hawks, as he allowed just one hit over the final two innings.  Monday's win went to Josh Gerson (Melville, N.Y.) after he went three complete innings.
