FSC Closes Regular Season with Split at Maritime

Throggs Neck, N.Y. - In a Skyline doubleheader at Maritime this afternoon, the Farmingdale State baseball team opened with an 11-2 victory before falling, 1-0, in the second game.

After a scoreless first three innings, FSC (21-14, 13-5) used a Nick Osburn (East Islip, N.Y.) RBI double down the left field line to score Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) in the top of the fourth.

With two on and two out in the top of the fifth, sophomore designated hitter Joseph Roche (Westbury, N.Y.) hit his first career home run to put the Rams on top, 4-0.

Farmingdale State added a run in both the fifth and sixth innings, before a five-run top of the ninth extended the advantage to 11-0. Maritime (20-11, 12-3) scored their two runs in the bottom of the ninth as FSC took game one, 11-2.

Osburn was 4-for-5 at the plate with a double, home run, run scored and game-high 4 RBI, while Roche went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and 3 RBI. Freshman left fielder Vincent Rice (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and junior second baseman Domenic Palumbo (Plainview, N.Y.) each tallied three hits for the Rams. Senior pitcher Matt Seelinger (Westbury, N.Y.) earned the win and improved to 4-1 on the season after allowing one earned run on five hits in 8.2 innings with 13 strikeouts.

In game two, the only run of the contest came in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Aaron Schiavoni (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) single through the right side which scored Brian McLaughlin (Massapequa, N.Y.).

Over the final three innings, Farmingdale State was held to one hit as they fell, 1-0.

Maritime freshman pitcher Travis Bruinsma (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) recorded the win after tossing a complete game shutout, allowing two hits and striking out seven.

FSC has earned the #3 seed for the upcoming Skyline Conference Baseball Championship and will host the first game of the playoffs on Wednesday, May 3rd. The remainder of the Championship will be held at top-seeded St. Joseph's-LI May 5-7.
