AURORA, N.Y. – The Keuka College Baseball team defeated Cazenovia College 7-2 in Game 1 of a North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Wells College. Game 2 of the doubleheader was called due to rain in the first inning.

Keuka College (15-15, 8-5 NEAC) got multi-hit days from Dakota Skinner (Waverly, N.Y. / Tigoa), Dave Nuzzo (Manlius, N.Y. / Fayetteville Manlius), and John Rizzo (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn). Nuzzo homered for Keuka, drove in two runs and scored three. John Rizzo also added two RBIs for the Wolves.

On the mound, Bryan Johnsen (Otisville, N.Y. / Minisink Valley) earned his fifth win of the season. He struck out nine without allowing a walk.

Keuka College 7 vs. Cazenovia College 2

Keuka College took the lead in the second inning on a two-run double by Kyle Colegrove (Elkland, Pa. / Williamson). The Wolves added to the lead in the third. A run came home on a fielders choice to make it 3-0. Dave Nuzzo followed it up with an RBI single for Keuka College. John Rizzo added to the lead in the fifth with a two-run single to make it 6-0 Keuka College. Nuzzo added an insurance run in the seventh with a solo home run as the Wolves continued onto the 7-2 NEAC victory over Cazenovia.

Lead Wolf: Dave Nuzzo has remained hot for the Wolves. The senior has eight hits in his last 11 at bats over three games. In that run, he has hit a pair of doubles, a home run, drove in five runs and scored six himself.

KC Notes:

  • The Wolves are now 18-33 all-time against Cazenovia, but have won three straight games against the Wildcats
  • Johnsen's fifth win of the season ties him for second most in program history
  • He passed Simon Mills and Keith Ryan for the fifth most strikeouts in a season in school history

Coming up for Keuka College: Sunday's doubleheader against Penn College has been postponed. The teams will attempt to make it prior to the Tuesday night conference deadline. As it stands right now, Keuka College is in a position to qualify for the North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament which will begin next weekend.
