Sophomore Ryan Lust drove in two runs with a home run and a double and junior Henry DeCaster allowed one run and eight hits over 6 2-3 innings as St. Thomas Baseball scored a 3-1 victory over No. 7-ranked Concordia-Chicago in a nine-inning game Sunday in Waverly, Iowa. That avenged Saturday's 7-1 UST loss to the Cougars.
DeCaster (1-1) walked three and struck out eight. Sophomore Shaun Falbo retired all seven batters he faced, five by strikeout, to earn his first save of the season. Falbo has not allowed a run in 12 career appearances covering 18 1-3 innings, and has given up just two hits.
The Cougars (9-3), who had a seven-game win streak halted, left 10 on base as DeCaster worked out of several jams.
Lust and Logan Kohorst had two hits each to lead a nine-hit attack for St. Thomas, which left eight on base. Sam Schneider had an RBI single in the fourth inning for St. Thomas.
St. Thomas (1-5) led Wartburg 3-0 but later gave up nine runs in the bottom of the eighth and lost 12-3 in a nine-inning game. Starter Drew Molin threw four shutout innings in his first appearance of the season.
