AUBURNDALE, FL - Ryan Miller outdueled one of the top pitchers in the region as the Benedictine University baseball team blanked the University of St. Thomas in Florida on Saturday afternoon

• Miller set the tone of the game by striking out the leadoff batter in the top of the first
• The sophomore retired the first 14 batters of the game before a two-out infield single in the top of the fifth
• The two-out single was the only hit and the lone base-runner for St Thomas in the game
• Miller finished by retiring the final 13 batters to tally the shutout
• The only run for Benedictine came unearned in the bottom of the eighth
• Kyle Mitter logged a one-out single, one of just three hits for Benedictine against the MIAC Pitcher of the Year last season
• Mitter moved to second on a groundout and scored on an error, accounting for the only run in the entire contest
• Benedictine is now 7-2 on the trip
• Benedictine owns four one-run wins on the trip and five decided by two runs or fewer
"That was one of the best pitching performances I have ever seen at this level," head coach Adam Smith said.
• Miller retired 27-of-28 batters faced
• The Eldridge, Iowa native struck out a career high 12 in improving to 2-0 on the season
• Miller struck out just 13 batters all of last season
• Jack Surin and Jimmy McLaughlin also notched hits in the shutout, the second of the trip
