LEXINGTON, Va. - Junior Colin Selby (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) fanned a career-high 14 in seven innings in the opener and junior Nick Roth (Henrico, Va./Benedictine) did not allow an earned run in seven innings in the nightcap with eight punchouts as the 10th-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team swept an ODAC doubleheader at Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (16-3-1, 8-1 ODAC) won the first game 10-5 before taking the nightcap 8-1 over the Generals (9-16, 2-9 ODAC).

Selby (5-1) scattered seven hits and allowed two runs (one earned) with two walks. His strikeout total of 14 was three away from the program record of 17, set by Hall-of-Famer Travis Beazley.

After W&L put up two runs in the bottom of the first in Game 1, R-MC responded in the second. With two away, sophomore Reece Yeargain (Richmond, Va./Benedictine) singled and moved to third on a base hit by junior Grant Huckestein (Manassas, Va./Woodbridge). Sophomore Michael Nickles (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) singled to drive in Yeargain, sophomore Zach Evans (Fort Mill, S.C./Seneca) had a base hit to bring home Huckestein, and Nickles scored on a wild pitch to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-2 advantage.

R-MC added to its lead in the third. Senior Rick Spiers (South Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) had a one-out bunt single and moved to second on a walk to senior Joseph Tuzzolo (Newport News, Va./Menchville). Both moved up 90 feet on a passed ball before Yeargain walked to load the bases. Spiers scored on a groundout by Huckestein, and Nickles drove in two with a double as the lead grew to 6-2.

In the sixth, Evans doubled and scored on a wild pitch, while junior Jeff Butler (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) walked and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Cole Migliorini (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) to make it 8-2.

In the eighth, Spiers added a sacrifice fly and Tuzzolo had a run-scoring single as the advantage grew to 10-2.

The Generals put up their final three in the bottom of the eighth.

Nickles finished with two hits and three RBI.

Roth (5-0) allowed seven hits and one unearned run in Game 2 with no walks and eight strikeouts. Roth has thrown 39 innings this season with no walks and 34 strikeouts.

The Yellow Jackets put up crooked numbers in the second and third to take control. Sophomore Ryan Duphorn (Erial, N.J./Paul VI) had an RBI single and Migliorini was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the second to give the visitors a 2-0 edge.

In the fourth, Yeargain scored on a wild pitch, Nickles came home on a passed ball, and Duphorn and Evans both scored on an error as R-MC went ahead 6-0.

After W&L plated a run in the fourth, Yeargain yanked a two-run homer to left to make it an 8-1 game.

Yeargain scored twice and knocked in a pair.

Randolph-Macon hits the road on Tuesday for a 3:30 Top Ten match-up at nationally-ranked Methodist.
