SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Berry College baseball team set a single-game program record with five home runs, and Tyler Calvert set a single-game program record after adding two homers himself, as the Vikings secured at least the No. 2 seed in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) after defeating Sewanee 21-6 on Friday afternoon.

With the run-rule victory, the Vikings also secured hosting rights for the opening weekend of the SAA tournament on April 19-21.

Berry scored early and often in the matchup, adding at least two runs in six of their seven at-bats. The top of the first inning set the tone for the contest, as three home runs were hit between the two teams to tie the game at 2-2.

The Vikings then added eight runs in the next two innings combined to take an early 10-3 lead. Berry would never trail again, combining for 22 hits on the day, while committing no errors.

Sewanee added three home runs of their own in the outing, finishing the day with 13 hits and one error, as the Tigers fall to 12-20 overall on the year, as well as 6-13 in conference play. With the win, Berry improves to 25-11 and 15-40

Calvert's two homers in the contest led all batters, as he finished 4-for-5 at the plate, with three runs and four RBIs. Jacob Delk was 4-for-5 in the outing as well, finishing with four runs, three RBIs and a homer of his own as well.

Ben Coker (8-1) earned the complete-game win on the mound for Berry, tossing all seven innings while allowing 13 hits and six runs, striking out three Tigers. His eight victories on the year ties a Berry single-season program record.
