DEFIANCE, OHIO – Junior outfielder Braxton Riley (Fort Wayne, Ind.), junior second baseman Christian Smith (Fortville, Ind.) and sophomore first baseman Nick Rush (Terre Haute, Ind.) each produced multiple-hit outings in game one of a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader Thursday, April 26.

Riley cracked three safeties, including a double, and drove in two, while Smith was also active at the dish with three hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Rush closed out the battle with the host Defiance College Yellow Jackets, tallying two singles and scoring a run. Even with a five-run, 11-hit attack for the offense, it wasn't enough for MU to avert a walk-off win by the hosts with a home run in the ninth for a 6-5 loss.

Game two saw DC wrap up a sweep, as starting pitcher Jon Brown weaved a five-hit shutout at the Black and Gold. Senior outfielder Eric Knepper (Bremen, Ind.) and Smith each rocketed doubles for MU but both were left on base.

Manchester University (16-19 overall, 6-8 HCAC) looks to turn around recent fortunes in which they've dropped seven of their last nine Saturday, April 28, when they travel to Transylvania University. The league double-dip begins at 12 p.m. at TU's William A. Marquard Field.
