No. 2 UW-Whitewater Mashes 22 Hits, Wins Seventh Straight

The No. 2 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team posted a double-digit scoring output for the fourth straight game and the sixth time in its last seven contests in a 22-4 triumph over St. Norbert in a non-conference affair at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium.

 

The Warhawks (24-4 overall) recorded season highs in both runs (22) and hits (22) and tied the fourth-highest scoring output in one game in program history. A total of 12 different players collected at least one hit in the effort.

 

Senior centerfielder Daytona Bryden hit for three-quarters of the cycle and finished 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three runs batted in. Sophomore right fielder Alex Doud clubbed a three-run homer and totaled three hits, two runs scored and seven RBI, and senior first baseman Blake Fleischman registered two hits, including a two-run homer, and three RBI.

 

Freshman shortstop Nick Santoro tallied three hits and two runs scored, and senior first baseman Trent Borgardt and freshman third baseman Jeran Simpson collected two hits apiece after entering late in the contest.

 

UW-Whitewater scored in six of its seven at-bats, breaking open a one-run game with six in the fourth, four in the fifth and nine in the sixth.

 

Freshman Matt O'Sullivan worked five innings for his second win of the season. He allowed three hits and three walks while striking out seven. Freshman Westin Muir pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief, and sophomore Cooper Michalski entered in the seventh to record the final out of the game.

 

The Warhawks return to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Friday to start a four-game series against UW-Stevens Point. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m. at Miller Stadium.
