GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.—Keystone College avenged its only loss in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action by holding off a late rally to defeat Gwynedd Mercy University, 7-4, Wednesday afternoon.

After dropping an 11-6 decision to the Griffins Monday at home, the Giants got a strong pitching performance today from junior Christopher Adams (Brooklyn, NY/Franklin K. Lane) and home runs from junior Dakota McFadden (Rocky Point, NC/Heide Trask) and senior Eric Drzewiecki (Hellertown, Pa./Phillipsburg) to improve to 27-8 overall and end conference play with a 15-1 record.  The loss dropped Gwynedd Mercy to 16-12 overall and 10-4 in the CSAC.

Adams cruised along for eight innings, limiting the Griffins to one run on six hits and striking out eight to improve his record to 4-2.  In the ninth inning, Gwynedd Mercy scored three runs and had two runners in scoring position before Keystone junior relief pitcher Matt Tarabola (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) induced a ground out to first-base to end the game.

McFadden gave the Giants a 1-0 lead with his fifth home run of the season in the first inning and Drzewiecki blasted a two-run shot in the fifth as Keystone opened up what appeared to be a comfortable 5-0 lead.   In between, the Giants added a run in the third on an RBI single by junior Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area) and took advantage of an error to score an unearned run in the fourth.

Keystone took advantage of another error by the Griffins to score an unearned run in the sixth and added its final run in the eighth when McFadden hit a sacrifice fly that scored junior Mohammed Hussein (Queens, NY/William C. Bryant), who walked and advanced to third on a double by sophomore Nick Carlini (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights), who finished with three hits.  The Giants also received two hits apiece from Panzarella and junior Ronald Medina (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton).

Gwynedd Mercy belted three of their nine hits in the ninth inning, which included a double by pinch-hitter Justin Fortkus and an RBI singles by pinch-hitters Matt Carter and Alex Ritter.    Tarabola, who came on in relief of senior Bray Curreri (Eldred, N.Y./Eldred Central), got the final two outs after giving up the single to Ritter. Sachel Sciarretta led the Griffins with two hits and Dave Tatoian had a double.

Keystone will take on The University of Scranton at the newly-constructed Kevin P. Quinn, SJ, Athletics Campus on Thursday, May 3, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
