CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Hood College baseball team spoiled the perfect start to Washington College's season with a 5-2 victory in non-conference play. 

The Shoremen had won their first 14 games of the season.

• Daniel Shepherd finished a home run short of the cycle, going 3 for 5 with a double and a triple. He stole a base. 
• Andrew Wenner and James DeProspero each had two hits and two runs batted in. 
• Brad Sawyer doubled and walked. 
• Chris Devine picked up the win in relief. He allowed an unearned run in 2.1 innings of work. He struck out three and allowed three hits and a walk. 
• Ryan D'Allesandro started and allowed one run on five hits in the first four innings. Jahlin Jean-Baptiste and Des Grimes turned in hitless relief after Devine and Jake Howell locked down his third save of the season. 

How it Happened

• Nathan Kessler led off the game with a single, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a base hit by Wenner for a 1-0 lead. 
• Hood scored twice in the second inning. Trent Copenhaver singled and Sawyer followed with a double. After DeProspero drove in Copenhaver with a groundout, Sawyer came home on a passed ball for a 3-0 lead. 
• Washington got one run back in the bottom of the inning when Chris Kramedas singled in Joe Otto. The Shoremen sent a second runner home on the play but Wenner gunned him down at the plate. 
• Shepherd started the third with a triple and scored on an infield hit by Wenner to make it 4-1. 
• Neither team scored again until the bottom of the seventh. Ryan Colbert reached on an error and scored on a triple by Kramedas to make it a two-run game. 
• An RBI single by DeProspero stretched the lead back to three runs in the top of the eighth. 
• Grimes pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning before walking Dylan Nepert to start the ninth. Howell came in and forced a fly out and a 6-4-3 double play to end the game. 

Notes

• Hood improved to 9-5 on the year. 
• The Shoremen are coached by former Hood head coach Cory Beddick. 
• Kramedas had two hits, two RBIs and a walk. 
• Jonah Frankel took the loss. He pitched six innings and allowed eight hits and four runs while striking out six.
