Babson Park, MA --- Senior Connor Gill (Sterling, MA) batted 3-for-5 with a stolen base, an RBI and two runs scored and sophomore Jordy Allard (Woodstock, VT) struck out seven as Babson defeated visiting WPI, 10-2, in a NEWMAC baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Govoni Field.

The Beavers (10-2, 3-0 NEWMAC), who are ranked No. 19 in the D3baseball.com Top 25 and No. 4 in the recently released New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Coaches Poll, extend their winning streak to nine games as the Engineers, who debuted at No. 8 on the same regional scroll, dip to 13-5 and 0-1.

The home team put three on the board in the first. A pair of singles and a walk set the stage for an RBI free pass drawn by junior Sean Harrington (Walpole, MA). Classmate Jake Oliger (Newtown, CT) chipped in with a sacrifice fly and senior Edward Lehr (Byram Township, NJ) swiped home on a double steal. Junior Alex DiMartino (Mahwah, NJ) then touched home in the second courtesy of a miscue.

Babson tacked on four more in the fourth as senior Brian McHale (Ramsey, NJ) plated the first with a productive ground out. Gill and Lehr followed with back-to-back RBI singles. The latter also saw Gill touch home for the Beavers. McHale reached on an RBI fielder's choice in the fifth and Oliger singled in a run in the sixth.

WPI broke up the shutout thanks to an RBI ground out by sophomore Jordan DeDonato (Danvers, MA) in the seventh. Junior Tyrone Patterson (Upper Marlboro, MD) then chipped in with a run-producing single in the eighth.

Patterson and senior Austin Lindner (Princeton Jct., NJ) each logged a pair of hits while senior Steven Gallagher (Coventry, RI) and freshman Michael Fraser (Mashpee, MA) contributed with doubles. Junior David Larson (Port Tobacco, MD), senior Sam Bacchiocchi (East Freetown, MA) and senior Rob Chase (Grand Isle, VT), who struck out three in two scoreless innings, took to the mound for the Engineers.

Valente joined Gill in the multi-hit club with a single and a double. McHale and Ogiler each drove in two runs as Harrington (2 stolen bases) and senior Eric Jaun (Loveland, OH) also doubled for the hosts. Sophomore Henry Leake (Burbank, CA) and senior Max Tannenbaum (Coral Springs, FL) made relief appearances.

WPI hosts Worcester State Wednesday at 3:30pm. Babson entertains Framingham State at the same time.
