The Nichols College baseball team fell to Clark University 11-5 Thursday afternoon in a non-conference game at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts.
 
Freshman Victor Valentin opened the scoring for the Bison (9-8) in the bottom of the second thanks to an RBI single and an error by the Cougars center fielder, advancing him to third. He wouldn't stay on third for long thanks to an RBI double by classmate Tyler Heenan. Junior Christian Naccari cut the lead to three in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a two-run homer. A throwing error on a pickoff attempt would bring in a run for the Bison in the seventh, bringing the score to 10-5.
 
The Cougars (8-9) put up four runs in the top of the third thanks to a fielder's choice, error, and a two-run shot by senior Zach Kelley. After stringing together a pair of hits and drawing two walks (one intentional), a passed ball, and a hit batter, Clark extended their lead to six in the top of the fifth. An RBI single by sophomore Chris Radovic would bring the score to seven. Clark would answer Naccari's homerun with three RBI singles in the seventh, bringing their run count to ten. Junior Ryan Ruhlin would get his second RBI on the day with a single in the eighth inning for Clark's eleventh run.
 
Nichols junior Brodie Altiere started for the Bison and was on the hook for the loss, recording three innings where he gave up four runs on two hits, one walk, and one hit batter, while dishing out five strikeouts. Freshman Brendan Duffy delivered an inning of no-hit ball in relief, stranding his one walked batter at third base.
 
Sophomore Sean Savage took the mound for Clark, recording five innings of work where he gave up four runs (one earned) on six hits, giving him the win. Classmate Torsten Sloane Anderson came in to relieve Savage, pitching two innings while giving up one run on two hits. Freshman John Limaldi pitched a perfect eighth inning, sitting down all three batters he faced. Classmate Jafar Vohra took over in the ninth striking out two.
 
Three things you should know...
-Naccari's two run home run is his seventh on the season, and his two RBI put him at twenty-seven, both leading the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).
-Today's contest marked the 46th meeting between the Bison and the Cougars. Despite the loss Nichols still holds a 30-14-2 lead.
-Nichols student-athletes currently hold the top spot in four statistical categories for the CCC. The four categories are home runs (Naccari, 7), RBI (Naccari, 27), wins (Blanford, 2), stolen bases (David Caron and Nathaniel Cormier, 8).
