Northboro, MA --- Senior Nicholas Browne (Mount Laurel, NJ) hit a grand slam as sophomore Jordy Allard (Woodstock, VT) and the rest of the nationally-ranked Babson baseball team completed the season sweep of WPI with an 8-6 victory Tuesday afternoon at the NEBC.

The Beavers (15-2, 6-0 NEWMAC), who entered the game at No. 12 in the most recent D3baseball.com Top 25, extends their winning streak to 14 games. WPI, meanwhile, slips to 16-6 and 2-2.

Allard yielded four runs on 11 hits and a walk while striking out five in his second start opposite the Engineers in as many weeks. Junior William Gallagher (Kingston, MA), sophomore Henry Leake (Burbank, CA) and senior Max Tannenbaum (Coral Springs, FL) each took the mound for at least an inning in relief. Offensively, freshman Thomas Lapham (Charlestown, MA), junior Jake Oliger (Newtown, CT) and junior Alex DiMartino (Mahwah, NJ) all collected a pair of hits and junior Sean Harrington (Walpole, MA) chipped in with a sacrifice bunt.

Senior Ryan Tropeano (Pembroke, MA) batted 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI and a run scored, and junior David Larson (Port Tobacco, MD) registered a double and a home run to go with a pair of RBI for the home team. Freshman Martin McCormack (Quincy, MA) added three hits and junior Tyrone Patterson (Upper Marlboro, MD) recorded a pair, including a double. Freshman Alexander Mondro (Westford, MA) allowed five runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in six innings. Junior Kyle Foley (Watertown, MA) struck out two while freshman Dylan Connors (Westboro, MA) and senior Rob Chase (Grand Isle, VT) each set down a batter during their stint on the bump.

Babson built a five-run lead in the top of the second. After Matthew Valente (Wyckoff, NJ) drew an RBI walk, Browne cleared the bases with a grand slam to left – all before an out was recorded. WPI began to chip away with an RBI single by Tropeano in the third. Larson then led off the home half of the fourth with a home run to right center.

Patterson used a run-producing single and Larson used an RBI double to make it a one-run game heading into the sixth (5-4). The Beavers capitalized on a miscue in the seventh before a double by DiMartino and a single by Lapham pushed the guests lead to 8-6 in the eighth.

Tropeano began a ninth-inning rally with an RBI single. Two batters later, graduate student Matt Howard (Worcester, MA) drove in another with a hit down the left field line. An infield popup and a liner concluded the two-game set between the two teams.

WPI travels to Amherst Wednesday for a 3:30pm first pitch. Babson heads to Roger Williams at the same time.
