Keuka College Baseball Falls at Alfred State

ALFRED, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team lost a nine-inning game at Alfred State College 13-12 on Tuesday.

Keuka College (8-12) was led by Ryan Seales (Saratoga Springs, N.Y. / Saratoga Springs) with a career-best four hits for the Wolves. The freshman had three singles, a double, and drove in two runs. Pat Flaherty (Lockport, N.Y. / Lockport) tied his career-high with three hits and Nick Kocjan (Canajohaire, N.Y. / Canajoharie) and Nick Brown (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) each drove in three runs for Keuka.

Keuka College took the early lead as Pat Flaherty delivered a run on a single in the top of the first. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Nick Kocjan cleared the bases with a double down the left field line to make it 4-0. An RBI single by Ryan Seales capped the inning as the Wolves led 5-0.

Pat Flaherty had his second RBI single in as many innings in the top of the second, but the Pioneers cut the Keuka lead in half with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

Nick Brown delivered a two-run single in the fourth inning and Jimmy Griffin (Syracuse, N.Y. / East Syracuse-Minoa) added to the lead as Keuka led 9-3 following Griffin's sacrifice fly in the fifth.

However, Alfred State would come back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and five in the sixth to take an 11-9 lead over the Wolves.

Keuka College responded in the seventh on RBI singles by Tyler Krowiak (Endwell, N.Y. / Seton Catholic), Nick Brown, and Ryan Seales to regain the lead 12-11.

The Pioneers would get a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh and then take the lead in the eighth on a wild pitch and throwing error as they came back to defeat Keuka College 13-12 on Tuesday.

  • The Wolves had three doubles in the game, giving them 47 on the season, seventh most in program history
  • Anthony Mashewske (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) hit a triple for the Wolves, as a team, Keuka has 11 this season, tying the 2013 squad for fifth
  • Tyler Freedman (Rochester, N.Y. / Aquinas) walked three times on Tuesday and stole a pair of bases

Up Next for Keuka College: The Green and Gold will conclude their three-game North Eastern Athletic Conference series with Penn College on Wednesday with a single, nine-inning game. The Wolves swept the Wildcats in a doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch from Kuhl Field is set for 3:30pm.
