HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee baseball is the oldest sport on the Domain, with results as far back as the 1875 season. However, after not playing for a little over a calendar year after what 2020 was, the 100-plus year history of the program saw another curveball on Friday.

-Pitchers Jake Pendergraft and Logan Martin recorded a no-hitter, punching out half the batters in the game.

-Pendergraft started the game for Sewanee, tossing three shutout innings. After recording the first four outs of the game, including three straight swinging strikeouts, the sophomore ran into trouble after giving up a free pass and a Sewanee fielding error. After a flyout to right and a double steal, the Cary, N.C. native left the runners there, as he posted his fourth strikeout to end the frame.

-Martin entered the contest in the fourth inning. After Josh Harvey reached base on catcher's interference, and a flyout, Harvey would steal both second and third. However, the Scots would leave another runner 90 feet away after back-to-back called third strikes.

-Sewanee responded and struck first. After a Jadon Fetrow walk and a Jack Roode single, Braxton Swanson would later bring home the first run with an RBI groundout.

-Despite Covenant recording a walk in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, including back-to-back innings where they led off with a free pass, the runners were stranded on base.

-The Tigers tacked on an insurance run in the bottom half of the seventh. Jake Woolard recorded a sacrifice fly to score Tyler Dunbar, who led off the frame with a line drive base knock to left.

-Despite the lead-off walk in the top of the seventh, Martin retired the last nine batters he faced, including striking out the side in the eighth.
