Marlins split doubleheader against No. 12 Rowan; Sinko's walk off single pushes Marlins past Profs

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia - The Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan split their doubleheader against the No. 12 Profs of Rowan University. RU took game one 4-2 while VWU won game two 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning on a walk off single by Matt Sinko.

Neither team managed to find a run through the opening five frames of play. It wasn't until the top of the sixth inning that Rowan broke through to get on the scoreboard as a double to center field drove in the first run of the game. 

The Profs added two more in the top of the seventh to go up 3-0 at the seventh inning stretch. The Marlins found a run in the bottom of the seventh inning as a ground out by Jaelen Hines drove in Zion Ross who pinch ran for Connor Hall. 

VWU pulled within a run, trailing 3-2, after a single to right field by Matt Sinko scored Trent Hanchey in the bottom of the eighth inning. Rowan added one more run to their tally in the top of the ninth going up 4-2, and unfortunately Virginia Wesleyan could not get the runs across the plate in the bottom half of the inning dropping game one 4-2.

Rowan struck early in the second game of the double header putting a single run on the board in the top of the first inning.

Both teams went scoreless through the sixth inning when Rowan added another run to their total on an RBI single to left field putting the score at 2-0.

Virginia Wesleyan answered in the bottom of the seventh inning as Garrett Lyons hit a double to left field that scored Ronaldo Del Duca and Trent Hanchey evening the score at two runs each. 

The Marlins held the Profs off the board in the top of the eighth inning and in the bottom half of the inning with runners on first and second, Matt Sinko hits the ball just past the short stop to score Jaelen Hines form second for the walk off win, 3-2.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to action tomorrow at 11 AM to round out the three game series against the No. 12 Rowan University Profs.
