HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Freshman Christian Lancaster (Danville) collected three hits, but Hampden-Sydney College dropped a 9-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball decision at home to Virginia Wesleyan University on Tuesday afternoon on Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark – Wurdeman Stadium. Senior captain Trey Karnes (Mechanicsville) and junior captain Ryan Boyce (Suffolk) each had an RBI on the day, while freshman Gavin Gregory (Suffolk) took the pitching loss for the host Tigers (17-10, 9-4 ODAC) against the visiting Marlins (14-11-1, 5-6-1 ODAC).

H-SC scored three runs on nine hits with two errors … scoring one run each in the first, fifth and sixth innings. VWU scored nine runs on nine hits with one error … scoring three runs in the first inning and two runs each in the second, sixth and seventh innings.

The Tigers got a ground ball RBI off the bat of Boyce (0-4, RBI) in the first to score senior Ethan Badin (Richmond) (2-5), who had two hits in the contest, to make it 3-1 after one inning. Karnes (1-4, RBI) added a run-scoring single in the fifth to again score Badin, and it was a 5-2 contest. Freshman Grayson Harris (Moseley) (1-4) crossed the plate in the sixth when classmate Jaxon Masterson (Raleigh, NC) (2-4)—with two hits in the game, as well—got into a rundown between first and second base to make it 7-3, but the Garnet & Grey were unable to score further over the final three innings. Lancaster (3-4) had three hits, including a one-out triple to the wall in right center field in the eighth, while Badin added two doubles and Harris also had a double.

Gregory (1-1) started and pitched the first 5.2 innings, allowing seven hits and six runs, four earned, with three strikeouts and one walk. Junior Owen Tappy (Charlotte, NC) was the final of four pitchers for H-SC, tossing 2.2 scoreless and hitless innings with two strikeouts and no walks.
