Walk Off Win Gives Centenary A Doubleheader Sweep of Rosemont

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Cole Heitzman's RBI single gave the Centenary University baseball team a walk off game-two win and a doubleheader sweep of Rosemont College on Monday afternoon at Our Diamond of Dreams.

Comeback was the name of the game for the Cyclones on Monday. Centenary trailed 2-1 going to the bottom of the fifth in game-one and rallied for the 6-2 win. Game-two saw Rosemont take a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh, but the Cyclones rallied with two runs in their final at-bat for the 5-4 win.

Game One Recap (Centenary Won 6-2):
The Cyclones got on the board first in this one as Nick Payne dropped a single into center field which scored Anthony Vassallo in the second.

Rosemont took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth.

Centenary answered right back in the bottom half of that frame. Jake Keenan ripped a double to left center that plated Vassallo.

The Cyclones weren't done as they put four on the board in the bottom of the sixth and took a 6-2 lead.

Nicholas Gattuso executed a perfect bunt and was safe at first on the throw. Chase Johnson scored on the play which gave the Cyclones a 3-2 edge.

Brandon Smith reached on an error that allowed a run to score and a wild pitch allowed Gattuso to cross the dish. Centenary capped the scoring with a Keenan sac fly to center.

Rosemont put runners on first and third with two outs in the seventh, but Chris Hess was able to get a groundout to close out the win for the Cyclones.

Anthony Ranaudo earned his fourth win of the season in relief. He pitched a scoreless sixth inning with a strikeout. Vinny Mattio took the loss for Rosemont as he allowed four runs on two hits and did not record an out.

Vassallo had two hits and two runs scored for the Cyclones while Keenan had a hit and two RBIs.

Game Two Recap (Centenary Won 5-4):
Centenary took an early lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second in game-two. Smith plated Heitzman with an RBI single through the right side. Smith later came around to score on a double play.

Rosemont took a 3-2 lead with three runs in the top of the fifth. Dom Younger had an RBI single and later came across the plate.

The Cyclones got the equalizer in the bottom of the fifth as Jon Fleck lifted a sac fly to right that scored Johnson.

Rosemont went back on top, 4-3 in the top of the seventh. Younger scored on a Centenary error in the frame.

The Cyclones proved their comeback fight in the bottom of the seventh. Gattuso was able to reach on an error and that scored Dominic Salot with the game-tying run. The Cyclones then loaded the bases with one out. Heitzman delivered an infield single that allowed Gattuso to score the game-winning run.

Matt Oehrlein earned the win in relief for the Cyclones as he allowed just one unearned run on one hit. Michael Denton took the loss after giving up one unearned run in a third of an inning.

Heitzman and Smith each had a hit, a run scored and an RBI for the Cyclones.

Centenary is back in action on Tuesday, April 19 when it visits Cairn for a doubleheader at 12 p.m.
