LEXINGTON, S.C. – Cortland rallied for five runs over the final three innings and the Red Dragons defeated Case Western Reserve, 6-5, to split a two-day, two-game series with the Spartans at Lexington County Stadium.

Cortland (6-7) has added a game to its schedule and will play at Brevard College in North Carolina on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Dylan Beers (Woodbury/Monroe-Woodbury) started for the Red Dragons and allowed three runs on five hits over four and a third innings. He struck out five and walked one. Anthony Fusco (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) earned the win in relief with two and two thirds innings of two-hit shutout ball. He fanned one batter and didn't walk anyone. Justin Patsey (Hyde Park/Franklin D. Roosevelt), Cortland's third reliever, earned the save after giving up one hit and no runs with two strikeouts over the final inning and a third.

Chris Bonacci (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished 2-for-5 with a double, Adam Mieczkowski (Vestal) hit a two-run, game-tying homer, and Matthew Krafft (Cornwall) had a key two-run single in a three-run eighth inning to lead the Cortland offense.

Case Western (5-5) was led at the plate by Jack Anderson and Zack Carinci, who each finished 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Nick Harms, who hit a solo homer. Spartans starter Reece Marley struck out nine batters and walked three over seven innings. He allowed three hits and three runs. Patrick O'Connor took the loss after allowing three unearned runs in the eighth.

Cortland took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Jon Munoz (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) led off with a walk, Dylan Mackenzie (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) hit a one-out double and Nick Chemotti (Warners/West Genesee) walked to load the bases. Zachary Kringdon (Larchmont/Mamaroneck) drove in the run with a fielder's choice grounder to short.

Case tied the game on Harms' homer in the fourth, and the Spartans took a 3-1 lead in the fifth on an Anderson RBI double and a Carinci RBI single. Fusco entered in relief with runners on first and second and one out and got out of the jam with no further damage.

Cortland knotted the game at 3-3 in the seventh when Kringdon drew a leadoff walk and Mieczkowski drilled a one-out, pinch-hit homer to left. The Red Dragons plated three runs in the top of the eighth to take a 6-3 lead. Bonacci led off with a double and Mackenzie reached on an error by the shortstop, with the ball then going into the outfield to allow Bonacci to score. With two outs, JJ DeLawder (Hyde Park/Franklin D. Roosevelt) and Mieczkowski were each hit by pitches to load the bases. Krafft then greeted preseason All-America reliever Tyler Horvath with a two-run single to left.

Case got two runs back in the top of the eighth. Logan Andreyko hit a one-out, pinch-hit double and RJ Christie, also pinch hitting, hit a double to left, although Andreyko had to hold initially and only advanced to third. A wild pitch scored Andreyko and moved pinch runner Tim Demetris to third, and Kevin Mackenzie followed with a sac fly to right.

In the bottom of the ninth, Carinci singled with one out and Harms reached on an error to move the potential tying run into scoring position. Patsey, however, struck out the next two batters to end the game.
