BRIDGEWATER ,Va. -- The Bridgewater College baseball team moved its win streak to five games with an 8-0 shutout victory against Hood in nonconference action at the Bridgewater Baseball Field on Tuesday.

Final Score: Bridgewater 8, Hood 0
Records: Bridgewater 9-12; Hood 10-6

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Blazers threatened to get on the board early on in the first inning as the visitors drew a total of three walks to eventually load the bases. Austin Rhue drew a base on balls and took second on a wild pitch before taking third on a sacrifice bunt. The runner on third was stuck there on a ground out to second before two more walks loaded the bases. Starting pitcher Jaden Isidro was able to get Christian Reyna to ground out to get out of the inning without allowing a run and stranding all three runners.
  • The pace of the game moved right along with several one-two-three innings before the sixth inning saw the Eagles rally. Jarret Biesecker started things off with a looping single to left before a bunt base hit from Brett Tharp put runners on first and second with just one out. Brandan Hartman laced a single right up the middle to score Biesecker from second to get BC up 1-0. Collin Reid stroked a single off the wall in right to score Tharp followed by an RBI double from Hunter Clever to score Hartman, 3-0.
  • The inning continued as the bases were loaded after Jeffrey Snider drew a walk and Isaac Sumpter was hit by a pitch. Camden Herron drilled an infield hit to second base that hit off the glove of a sliding second baseman to score Clever and set the score at 4-0.
  • The Eagles tallied an insurance run in the following inning as Biesecker walked and came around to score on a fielding error following a base hit from Tharp, 5-0. Three more runs came across in the eighth frame as Herron and Sumpter scored on another fielding error from the left fielder following a single by TJ Johnson who then scored during the next at bat.
  • The Blazers went down in order in the top of the ninth to end the game and secure the shutout.
