Shane Stossel Blasts Two Home Runs and Knocks In Eight Run at Albright

READING, Pa. – Shane Stossel hit three-run home runs in back-to-back innings and finished with eight RBI to lead the Lebanon Valley baseball team to a 15-7 victory at Albright College on Friday afternoon in the series opener.

The Lions (3-16, 1-10 MAC Commonwealth) got off to a strong start with four first inning runs to take the early lead. LVC (11-10-1, 7-1, MAC Commonwealth) responded with 10 consecutive runs over the next six innings. Stossel scored the first run of the game for the Dutchmen in the second on a throwing error by the Lion shortstop. Owen Berry then hit a two-out single to left to score Dave Mangold and Ryan Murphy. Andrew Miles tied the game up in the third inning with an RBI single to center. He then scored the go-ahead run on a Mangold single to left and a throwing error by the third baseman trying to get Mangold out at second. Stossel gave the Dutchmen a two-run lead in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to center as Jace Fetterman raced home for his first run of the game. Miles scored the second run of the inning on a throwing error by the Albright catcher on a steal of third by Miles. 

Fetterman walked and Logan Brewer singled to begin the seventh. Stossel then hit a blast over the fence in left center to make it a 10-4 game. The Lions scored a run in the bottom of the inning before LVC added four more runs in the eighth. Nico Santoro singled and was knocked in by a Fetterman single to right. Brewer walked to put runners on first and second for Stossel. The junior responded with his second home run of the game with a blast to straightaway centerfield. Albright scored twice in the eighth to cut the lead to 14-7 before Stossel drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth for the final run of the game.

Inside the Box Score

  • Stossel was 2-3 with a walk at the plate and scored three runs. His eight RBI are two shy of the program record. The junior recorded his second career multi-homer game.
  • Miles also had a huge day at the plate with three hits in five at-bats. He scored two runs and knocked in one.
  • The Dutchmen had 16 hits with seven different hitters recording a multi-hit game.
  • Santoro, Fetterman, Brewer, Mangold, and Murphy all had two hits. Fetterman and Brewer scored three runs each while Berry knocked in two.
  • Tony Bennage pitched six strong innings of relief to earn his second win of the season. He struck out two and allowed just one run on three hits.
  • The Dutchmen have won the last seven meetings with Albright and have scored over 10 runs in every game but one.

LVC and Albright will finish the series tomorrow afternoon with a pair of games at McGill Field. Game one is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start in Annville with game two to follow.
