Benedictine Bashes 11 Homers in Sweep

The Benedictine University baseball team opened the home and conference portion of the schedule by sweeping Lakeland in cold conditions but bashed 11 homers in the process of winning a pair of shortened affairs 16-6 and 14-3. Benedictine finished with 36 hits, posting 18 in each affair.

Tied at 4-4 following three innings, Benedictine put a five spot on the board in the fourth powered by a pair of two-run homers from Peter Turelli and Logan Gregorio along with a solo blast from Kevin Bushnell. Turelli would homer again in the sixth after Andrew Tenison deposited a solo blast in the fifth. Brennan Fisher got into the act with a two-run homer in the sixth as well as Benedictine scored in all of their visits to the plate. Nick Kosmetatos worked five innings to earn the win. Leo Corbett finished out the contest. Gregorio finished 5-for-5 at the plate.

Leading 2-1, Benedictine connected on back-to-back-to-back homers to open the third when Bushnell, Fisher and Tenison went deep. All three homered in both ends of the doubleheader. Gregorio smacked a two-run blast to dead center in the seventh and Fisher ended the game with his second of the contest over the wall in right. Benedictine posted five consecutive extra-base hits to finish the game. Fisher finished with four hits and drove home four runs. Andrew Kurcz was the beneficiary of the run support, tossing a seven-inning complete game. Elevn of the 18 hits in the game went for extra bases as every member of the order prduced at least one hit.
