ASHLAND, Va. – Freshman Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) had six hits, three runs and five RBI as the 10th-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team swept an ODAC doubleheader from Averett on Sunday afternoon.

How It Happened: Game 1
- The Cougars posted one run in the top of the first before the Yellow Jackets responded in the bottom of the frame. Junior Matt Myers (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) had a leadoff triple and scored on a single by senior Ethan Iannuzzi (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby) to level the score at 1-1. With one away, junior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby) doubled to move Iannuzzi to third. Schmitt singled to drive in Iannuzzi and Webb, giving RMC a 3-1 advantage.
- AU put up four in the top of the second before RMC answered in the bottom of the inning. Myers had a leadoff walk, went to second on a base hit by Iannuzzi and scored on a throwing error. Webb reached on a fielder's choice, while he and Iannuzzi came home on a triple by Schmitt to give the Yellow Jackets a 6-5 edge. Schmitt scored on a groundout by sophomore Aaron Lautenschlager (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) to make it 7-5.
- The Yellow Jackets added a run in the fourth as Myers was hit by a pitch with two away, stole second and scored on an error to take an 8-5 advantage.
- The Cougars tallied three in the fifth to tie the game at 8-8. RMC would take the lead for good an inning later. Schmitt had a one-out single and stole second. Lautenschlager drew a walk and joined Schmitt on a double steal. With two away, senior Carter Johnson (Southampton, Va./Southampton) singled to right to bring home Schmitt and Lautenschlager, giving the home team a 10-8 lead. Johnson scored on a base hit by Myers to push the lead to 11-8.
- AU pulled with one in the eighth before RMC added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. Sophomore Lincoln Lubsen (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) drew a one-out walk, stole second and scored on a wild pitch to make it 12-10. The Cougars got one in the ninth, but stranded the tying run as the Yellow Jackets recorded the 12-11 victory.

- Junior Cole Stamm (Irvington, Va./Middlesex) went the final 1.2 innings with two punchouts to earn his seventh save, one away from the school record for saves in a season.
How It Happened: Game 2
- After two scoreless innings, RMC got on the board in the third. Myers had a leadoff double and scored on a two-bagger by Schmitt to make it 1-0. Schmitt went to third on a single by Webb and came home on a fielder's choice by sophomore Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./The Miller School) as the lead grew to 2-0.
- Senior Hunter Cole (Norfolk, Va./Granby) had leadoff homers to right in the fourth and sixth innings to give the Yellow Jackets a 4-0 advantage. Cole took over the team lead with five homers for the season.
- AU tallied a run in the eighth to avoid the shutout and make the final 4-1.

- Junior Drew Ramos (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) tossed five scoreless innings with three hits, one walk and six strikeouts to raise his record to 4-0.
- Junior Jacob Lawler (Broad Run, Va./Battlefield) did not allow a hit in two scoreless innings of relief.
- Senior Brennan Tyznar (Bon Air, Va./Trinity) fanned the final hitter in the eighth to keep the margin at three runs for RMC.
- Sophomore Bere Bauers (Devon, Pa./Devon Prep) pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts to record his first save.
- Cole was 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBI.
- Schmitt went 3 for 5 with one run and one RBI.
- Iannuzzi had a double in the first to extend his hitting streak to 21 games and his on-base streak to 24 games.
- Lautenschlager extended his on-base streak to 12 games.
