The Basics

Score: Salisbury 6, Randolph-Macon 5

Site/Venue: Salisbury, Md./Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium

Records: RMC 29-11, SU 28-4

How It Happened

  • After two scoreless innings, the Yellow Jackets got on the scoreboard in the top of the third. Webb had a leadoff single, went to second on a balk, advanced to third on a flyout by sophomore Lincoln Lubsen (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) and scored on a base hit by senior Hunter Cole (Norfolk, Va./Granby) to give RMC a 1-0 lead.
  • After the Sea Gulls tied it in the bottom of the third, RMC reclaimed the lead in the fourth. Freshman Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) delivered a leadoff single and moved to second on a walk to senior Carter Johnson (Southampton, Va./Southampton). Both runners moved up on a passed ball and Schmitt scored on a base hit by Webb to put the Yellow Jackets on top 2-1. Johnson came home on a sacrifice fly by junior Grayson Bush (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) to increase the lead to 3-1. Webb would score on a wild pitch as RMC went up 4-1.
  • After SU scored one in the fourth, the Yellow Jackets answered in the sixth. Johnson had a leadoff single, went to third on an errant pickoff throw to first and scored on a base hit by Webb as RMC took a 5-2 lead. The Sea Gulls scored one in the sixth, two in the eighth and one in the ninth to pull out the win.
