Keystone Captures 2023 CSAC Championship

LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College baseball team captured its 18th straight conference championship (15th straight CSAC title) with a 10-8 come from behind win against Wilson College Saturday afternoon at Christy Mathewson Field. With the win, Keystone moves to 30-12 and have earned the CSAC's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Wilson ends the year at 34-10.

Bobby Pokorney (Margate, Fla./J.P. Taravella) went 3-for-3 with two RBI in route to being named the Championship MVP. Julio Acosta (Elizabeth, N.J./Hudson Catholic) went 2-for-3 which was highlighted by a two-run home run. Giovanni Diaz (Bronx, N.Y./Christopher Columbus) and Jason Thomas (Miami, Fla./Barbara Goleman) enjoyed two base knocks. 

Nathan Hinkley (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Lucie West Centennial) got the start and went four innings. Drew Sorrentino (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland)Julian Gonzalez (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne), and Tyler Mullen (Scott Township, Pa./Lakeland) appeared in relief with Gonzalez picking up a strikeout and Mullen grabbing his fifth save of the season.

The Giants were trailing 7-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth before putting up a five spot in that inning to cut their deficit down to one. Wilson put up one run in the seventh off of a solo home run by Michael Marrale, but were shut out the final two innings of the championship game. The eighth inning is where the game got turned upside down as Keystone scored four runs in that inning off of an error and three RBI base knocks to complete the comeback.

Keystone will find out where they are heading in the regional tournament Monday afternoon, May 15 at 12 p.m.
