GREENSBORO, N.C. - Hood College's Joe Alexander (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) was selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Region 5 Third Team in voting by the association's coaches.
Alexander, making his first appearance on the all-region team, anchored the Blazers' starting rotation in 2023. He was a member of the All-Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth First Team for the first time in 2023, as well. Alexander tied for fourth in the MAC Commonwealth in wins (six) and finished tied for third in the conference in ERA (3.09). He also was fourth in opponent batting average, holding opponents to .230 at the plate. The senior struck out 51 batters, tied for fifth in the MAC Commonwealth, and ended the season with four straight complete games on the mound. Alexander tossed two shutouts against Widener and Eastern and tied Nate Luscombe for most complete games in a season in Hood College history.
He is the first Blazer on an all-region team since Jordan Patterson was honored by d3baseball.com in 2021. Alexander's nod by the ABCA is Hood's first since 2018 (Cameron Esposito).
The Blazers went 18-20 overall in 2023, including 11 wins in the MAC Commonwealth.
