The Case Western Reserve University baseball team completed a sweep of its four-game series against the University of Chicago with two more wins on Sunday, defeating the Maroons 6-3 in the first game of the day and 6-2 in the late contest at Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland.

The win in the early game gave CWRU Head Coach Matt Englander the 400th victory of his career. Already the winningest head coach in the program's history, Englander now stands at 401-280-2 overall, good for a .588 career winning percentage. Each of his 401 victories has come during his 18-year career at the Spartans' helm.

With the two wins on Sunday, the Spartans have now won six straight games, the team's longest winning streak of the season, and have been victorious in eight of their last nine contests. CWRU improved to 14-5 overall, while Chicago dropped to 1-13 with the two losses on Sunday.

Game 1 - CWRU 6, Chicago 3
Sophomore Archer Stankowski struck out a career-high 13 batters, the second most in a game in program history, leading the Spartans to a 6-3 win over the Maroons in the first game of the day and giving Englander his 400th career victory.

Stankowski went a career-long eight innings in the start, holding the Maroons to just three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk. The 13 strikeouts matched the second-most in a single game in program history and were just one shy of the program record set by first-year pitcher Quinn Saunders earlier in the month. Stankowski picked up the win in the game to improve to 3-1 on the season while lowering his ERA to 3.12.

The Spartans scored first in the game, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a two-out RBI single by senior center fielder Connor Stephenson. After Chicago scored a pair in the top of the third to go ahead by a run, CWRU answered in the bottom of the inning, rallying with three straight two-out hits, including a two-RBI single by graduate student first baseman Dane Camphausen that scored graduate student third baseman James Powers and junior right fielder Nick Harms, giving the Spartans the lead back, 3-2. However, Chicago struck again for a run in the top of the fourth, tying the score at 3-3.

The score remained tied until the bottom of the fifth. CWRU started the inning with back-to-back singles from graduate student catcher Jack Anderson and Powers. A wild pitch allowed Anderson to score from third and Harms followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Powers and put the Spartans in front 5-3. In the sixth, senior shortstop Grant Price walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by graduate student catcher Jack Anderson to extend the Spartans' lead to 6-3.

Stankowski retired nine of the final 10 batters he faced in the game before giving way to senior Tyler Horvath in the ninth. Horvath went on to retire the side in order in the ninth to record his team-leading fourth save of the season and the 16th of his career, moving him within two of Daniel Sodag's program career record of 18 saves.

The Spartans outhit Chicago 10-7 in the game with all 10 of the team's hits being singles. Anderson, Powers, Camphausen, and Stephenson each had two hits apiece, with Camphausen finishing the game two-for-two with two walks and two RBIs.

Chicago's Phil Hogan suffered the loss in relief, falling to 1-2 for the campaign.

Game 2 - CWRU 6, Chicago 2
Camphausen hit his team-leading fifth home run of the campaign and sophomore Austin McGowan and junior Jackson Brewer combined for five scoreless innings out of the bullpen to help the Spartans complete a four-game sweep of Chicago with a 6-2 win in the final game of the series.

The Spartans fell behind early in the game as Chicago scored a single run in both the first and second innings off first-year starter Tyler Stillson to go ahead 2-0 heading into the bottom of the second. However, the Spartans responded by hitting around in their half of the second and scoring five runs to take the lead in the game. Camphausen started the rally by opening the frame with a base hit and later scored on an RBI double by Stillson. Graduate student left fielder Franco Alonso added a two-run single later in the inning to turn a one-run deficit into a one-run lead. A sacrifice fly from Anderson and an RBI double from Powers later in the inning helped the Spartans take a 5-2 lead by the end of the second.

Camphausen added to the Spartans' lead with his fifth home run of the season to lead off the third inning, putting CWRU in front 6-2.

Stillson went on to pitch a scoreless third and fourth inning and capped off his scheduled four-inning outing with two runs allowed (one earned) on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts. McGowan issued a hit and a walk with a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless fifth inning before Brewer entered the game in the sixth and closed out the contest with four shutout innings, giving up just three hits and striking out six batters.

Stillson picked up the win in the game to improve to 2-0 this season. Brewer earned his first save of the year with the effort.

Powers, Camphausen, and Alonso each had two-hit games for the Spartans in the late contest.

Chicago starter Dev Rupani took the loss in the game to drop to 0-1 on the year.

The Spartans will now turn their attention to the start of University Athletic Association play next weekend. CWRU will open league play at Emory University in Atlanta next weekend starting with a 3:00 p.m. game on Friday, March 29.
