Keuka College Baseball Closes Season at Utica

CLINTON, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team closed their 2024 season with an 11-8 loss to Utica University in a game played at Hamilton College.

Keuka College finished the season with an 8-28 record, going 5-13 in the Empire 8 Conference.

The Wolves took the early lead on Sunday with an infield single by Matt Vaccaro (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Fayetteville-Manlius) scoring Alex Evans (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool).

The Pioneers tied it in the second, but Keuka took the lead back in the third. The Green and Gold loaded the bases with one out. Donald Nemeth (Guilderland, N.Y. / Guilderland) singled through the left side to score two and make it 3-1. The Wolves added a run on a passed ball then Sam O'Neil (Macedon, N.Y. / Ruben A. Cirillo) doubled home Nemeth as the Wolves went ahead 5-1.

Senior Quinn Toomey (Berne, N.Y. / Berne-Knox-Westerlo) made his first career start in his 26th career appearance and pitched well for the Wolves. He worked into the fourth inning allowing just two runs on four hits.

Keuka scored a run in the fifth on an error, but the Pioneers plated three in the fifth to make it a one-run game. A two-run, two-out single gave Utica the lead an inning later. The Wolves tied the game back at 7-7 on an Ian Ruhmel (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads) single in the seventh, but Utica answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead.

The Wolves loaded the bases in the ninth with one out. Following a walked-in run, Keuka had the tying run on base, but a groundout ended the game with the Wolves falling 11-8.
