How It Happened:
- After freshman starter Carter Schuma (Midlothian, Va./Trinity) retired the Blue Jays in order in the top of the first, the Yellow Jackets got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame. Freshman Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) was hit by a pitch, sophomore Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) and freshman Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) beat out a bunt for a single to load the bases. Quici scored on a double play as RMC took the early 1-0 lead.
- RMC added to its advantage in the third. Sophomore Eli Brooks (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) had an infield single, went to second and third on passed balls, and scored on a double down the right field line by Quici to extend the lead to 2-0. Wernoski singled to right to move Quici to third and Wernoski took second on the throw to the infield. Senior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby) singled up the middle to knock in Quici and Wernoski, making it 4-0.
- Etown put three on in the fourth but did not score. The leadoff hitter was plunked and was out on a fielder's choice. The runner tried to steal second, but was thrown out by sophomore Logan Duff (Forest, Va./Liberty Christian). A walk and a double put a pair in scoring position before a flyout to Brooks in right ended the threat.
- The Blue Jays put their first two on in the top of the fifth. On a bunt, the batter was called out at first on interference. Sophomore William Wian (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) took over on the mound and fanned the next two hitters to squash the rally.
- The Yellow Jackets put up another run in the bottom of the fifth. Webb drew a leadoff walk and went to second when junior Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./Miller School) walked as well. Webb went to third on a fielder's choice and came home on a bunt single by Duff to extend the lead to 5-0.
- Etown put two in scoring position with one away in the seventh. Wian got a foulout and a strikeout to strand the pair.
- The Blue Jays scored two in the eighth and brought the tying run to the plate before junior Michael Shanahan (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) got a come backer to keep it at 5-2.
- Shanahan retired Etown in order in the ninth with two strikeouts to record his first save.
